Setting a pin on your Solokey 2
Solokeys are open-source physical security keys that support FIDO2 among other authentication protocols. Security keys are a great way to authenticate with complex credentials (difficult-to-crack) in a user-friendly manner.
Unfortunately, the Solokey 2 can be used out-of-the-box without configuring a pin which means that if someone gets a hold of your physical key and knows which of your accounts are linked to the key then they can access those accounts in a very easy manner (assuming that you haven't setup MFA).
To set a pin, follow the steps in this guide. Simply put, you'll need to:
- plug your solokey into your machine
- install the
fido2v0.9.3 python package (compatible withsolo1) - install
solo1python package - run
solo1 key set-pin
